My Home“House Content” is the name of my home. I inherited the name when I purchased the house 12 years ago. In fact, its name – and that it even had a name! – was what drew me to it. I had been searching for a personal retreat and this home was the answer to my dreams. It expressed beautifully what I wanted and needed in my life . . . and in my home. Nestled on six acres in picturesque upstate New York, House Content is a little historic gem. Its quaint charm and gingerbread trim reminds me of the adorable old-world cottages that dot the English countryside. Built around 1830, the house sits back from the road, tucked among tall mature trees. A country driveway with a gentle bend leads visitors to my door and into my eclectic and, some would say, whimsical interior. I decorate with my heart, and I’ve no doubt broken countless decorating rules. But, that’s the fun and freedom of living alone! My antiques live in harmony with my modern accents; my color scheme is warm yet contemporary; and my lighting ranges from traditional lamps to twinkling lights. Decorating House Content has been an adventure in self-discovery. Check out my column titled, “Your Home: Make it Your Own,” under Helpful Advice. There you’ll find useful tips and inspiration. |
